Properties, Advantages And Industrial Applications Of Stainless Steel 904L Tube Fittings And Other Equipments Of The Alloy

Stainless steel 904 l was created to offer those properties that the alloys AISI 316 L and the alloy AISI 317 L failed to offer. Unlike other Stainless Steel 904L Tube Fittings has more amount of copper and hence offers better resistance to corrosion. Particularly, it resists the corrosion acid attacks like the attacks caused by acetic acid, phosphoric acid and sulphuric acid. The alloy does not offer high resistance to corrosion caused by sulfuric acid and hence is has only limited usage in such media. It offers high resistance to corrosion caused by stress and prevents cracking and is also resistant to other kinds of localized attacks like pittance and crevice corrosion.  The alloy contains chromium which forms a passive ring around the tubes and other equipment made form it, thereby protecting them from the corrosive media and other corrosive substances. The alloy also does not suffer from inter-crystalline corrosion when it is welded or cooled as it has lower amounts of carbon. The maximum service temperature of the alloy is 450 degree Celsius.

Precipitation

The alloy shows better resistance to iron precipitation in the form of ferrites in comparison to other alloys that have molybdenum, like stainless steel 316 L and the 317 L.
